The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with two injuries to quarterbacks this week, as both Brock Purdy and his backup, Mac Jones, are banged-up.
Purdy is still sidelined due to a toe injury and he's off to a bad start this week after he didn't practice on Wednesday. Jones is battling oblique and knee issues but was able to log a limited practice to begin the week.
When speaking to KNBR on Thursday, general manager John Lynch said he does not think Jones will be hampered by the oblique issue during the Week 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"No, I think we feel pretty good about where he's going to be," Lynch said.
Lynch also provided an update on wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who wasn't able to suit up last week because of ankle and rib injuries.
Jennings started off the week without participating in practice, but he's expected to return on Thursday, albeit in a limited capacity, Lynch revealed.
"We'll see if he can make it for Sunday," Lynch said of Jennings.
Last but not least, tight end George Kittle is eligible to return from injured reserve this week after landing on the list following Week 1 because of a hamstring issue.
While Kittle isn't going to be back this week, Lynch did say he's "fairly confident" that Kittle will be returning to practice in Week 7, which opens the door for him to play versus the Atlanta Falcons.
"I do believe we're nearing, we're getting there," Lynch said of Kittle.
This tracks with what head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday. Shanahan revealed that Kittle has a chance to return in Week 7.
One player we did not get an injury update on from Lynch's KNBR interview is wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, whose status remains up in the air after he was ruled out last week and didn't log any participation at Wednesday's practice.
the Niners will drop their next injury report on Thursday, so we'll get updates on Jones, Jennings and Pearsall then.
