San Francisco 49ers receiver Kendrick Bourne is $500,000 richer and ready to spread some holiday cheer — though, like everyone else, he’s still working within a Christmas budget.
Bourne triggered the incentive with his first catch Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts, pushing him past 500 receiving yards on the season. He entered Week 16 needing just one yard to reach the mark.
Bourne appeared Tuesday on the “NFL on CBS” YouTube channel and said his teammates are already expecting gifts. He later joked on Wednesday, Christmas Eve, that one teammate won’t be getting anything.
Kendrick Bourne going to ‘bless’ the WR room
The 30-year-old receiver is on a one year, heavily incentivized deal with the Niners. He was asked by the CBS Sports crew how he plans to spend the $500k.
“I told my receiver room that everybody getting some money,” Bourne said. “I told them, I ain’t got the money right now, give me a day, I’ll be back in the office. When you get a blessing, you gotta bless people back. The rooks, they be like, c’mon man bless us. It’s the giving season, so I’m in that mood. We gonna bless some people, buy some stuff.”
Kendrick Bourne jokes that Mac Jones will not get a gift
One teammate that made the naughty list, however, is backup quarterback Mac Jones.
“Nah, Mac’s not getting (anything),” Bourne told CBS Sports reporter Matt Lively on Wednesday. He added that he was joking and Jones will likely receive what he wants — a pair of Cartier glasses.
Bourne played a major role in the 49ers’ offense for several weeks while San Francisco dealt with multiple injuries to its pass-catchers and Jones filled in for the injured Brock Purdy.
As the offense has gotten healthier, however, Bourne has slipped into more of a supporting role, making the climb to 500 receiving yards much more difficult.
