Things are going from bad to worse for the San Francisco 49ers as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round.

Already without a number of key starters, the 49ers just lost another one.

In the second quarter, tight end George Kittle caught a pass from Brock Purdy but got injured in the process.

We didn't know the extent of the injury, but it looked like a dreaded Achilles injury.

And NFL Network's Ian Rapoport just confirmed it on X.

"George Kittle is out with an Achilles injury. Brutal," Rapoport wrote.

49ers struggling vs. Eagles

A big piece of the 49ers' offense is now gone, so it will be up to Kyle Shanahan and Purdy to make the best of it in the second half as most of the game plan is now unavailable.

That could lead to the 49ers to lean on Christian McCaffrey both as a runner and pass-catcher because someone is going to have to step up big time if the 49ers are to advance to the divisional round.

Can they do it?

It looms as a tough task, but if the 49ers want their season to continue, they'll have to.
