George Kittle injury update: Kyle Shanahan provides latest news on 49ers TE's status image

The San Francisco 49ers have an injury concern regarding tight end George Kittle heading into one of their biggest games of the season against the Chicago Bears in Week 17.

Kittle exited the 49ers' Week 16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the third quarter due to an ankle injury, and it was later revealed that the All-Pro tight end suffered a mid-to-low ankle sprain.

With Kittle's status up in the air for Sunday's contest versus the Bears, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided the latest update on Wednesday.

George Kittle injury update

While speaking to the media, Shanahan stated that Kittle has a chance to play on Sunday, though he won't practice to kick off the week.

"49ers TE George Kittle “has a chance” to play this week against Bears, per Kyle Shanahan. He won’t participate today but team will see how next few days go," ESPN's Nick Wagoner said on X.

I f Kittle can return to practice at some point this week and show signs of progress, it's not out of the question that the 32-year-old could play on Sunday. Kittle missed six games earlier this season due to a hamstring injury.

We'll see if Kittle is healthy enough to suit up when San Francisco takes on Chicago at Levi's Stadium in Week 17.
