The San Francisco 49ers are making the trip to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the playoffs.
This matchup between the 49ers and Eagles is bound to be a good one, and there's already an interesting storyline developing.
As Zach Berman of The Athletic shared, Eagles lineman Jordan Mailata took a subtle jab at 49ers defensive lineman Bryce Huff. While not a direct jab, it's one that can be taken a certain way based on how Huff's 2024 season went with the Eagles.
Eagles OT takes subtle jab at 49ers' Bryce Huff
"100 percent," Mailata said when asked if Huff would be juiced for this matchup. "Can't wait to see Super Bowl-champ Bryce Huff."
Mailata's comments might not seem like much of a jab, but there's important context to know: Huff didn't play in the Super Bowl.
Huff was a healthy inactive for the Super Bowl, meaning he didn't contribute to the Eagles beating the Kansas City Chiefs to win their second Super Bowl title in franchise history.
While he was on the team and played for part of the 2024 season, Huff was not a big contributor to the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. He struggled to generate sacks, wasn't great in the run game and overall, was a step down from their other options, so much so that he was a healthy inactive for the biggest game of the season.

Mailata referring to him as "Super Bowl-champ Bryce Huff" can be taken as a jab at the former Eagles pass rusher.
He didn't help the Eagles win the Super Bowl, but while technically a Super Bowl champion, this quote from Mailata can be seen as tongue-in-cheek.
After the 2024 season with the Eagles, he was traded to the 49ers, and now, Huff will get to face his former team as the Eagles and 49ers face off for the first time in the playoffs since their infamous last meeting.
This is the first playoff matchup since the Eagles and 49ers NFC Conference Championship in 2023, when Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson both got hurt, and the 49ers had little to no chance of winning.
