Is Brandon Aiyuk out for the season? Explaining injury, contract news for 49ers WR image

The San Francisco 49ers have not gotten the season out of Brandon Aiyuk that they were hoping for.

Really, they haven't gotten any season out of Aiyuk at all.

Aiyuk has yet to play a single snap for the 49ers, and that's not going to change on Monday night in Week 12 when the 'Niners take on the Panthers.

It's not clear if it'll change the rest of the way, either.

Is Brandon Aiyuk out for the season?

Aiyuk isn't officially out for the season, no. But it's trending that way.

The Athletic reported that the 49ers and Aiyuk may part ways after the season and that he may have already played his last snaps for San Francisco.

Aiyuk had his contract guarantees voided, too.

"It takes a lot of things to get a contract voided," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "I've never dealt with that in my career and been in any building that's had that. It was unusual. But that's stuff that I can't get into right now."

Aiyuk wasn't going to make it back for the start of the 2025 season. He tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus in October of 2024.

That meant he started the season inactive, but generally, injuries like that have a recovery of approximately 12 months. The time has gone past that now.

It's hard to know at this point whether Aiyuk is fully healthy or not. This off-field contract conflict has complicated things.

Given the reports and public comments about this, it's hard to see Aiyuk making his way back.
