Injuries have plagued the San Francisco 49ers for many seasons and have proved costly, especially when the team aspired to win a Super Bowl.
Although this has been another injury-riddled season, the Niners have found ways to overcome those problems and have a chance to secure the NFC's number one overall seed if they win out.
This season, injuries have hurt the team most on the defensive end, with the loss of two of their household names, linebacker Fred Warner and defensive end Nick Bosa, early in the season.
Today, the team lost another piece on defense in the linebacker room, as rookie Nick Martin was placed on injured reserve by the team on Saturday, presumably ending his season.
The 2025 third-rounder out of Oklahoma State suffered a concussion in the team's win over the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 30 and has been in the protocol since then. Hence, the 49ers' decision to shut him down sounds like the best way to protect the safety of the young linebacker.
Martin finished the season with 11 total tackles through seven games, in which seven of those came in the game against the Arizona Cardinals, and forced a fumble versus the Carolina Panthers.
In the meantime, San Francisco has improvised the entire season with the various injuries; it will be interesting to see how they will overcome another setback when they start on 'Monday Night Football' against the Indianapolis Colts on the road before their final two games against fellow playoff teams, the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.
