49ers' Kyle Shanahan reveals honest opinion on Eagles QB Jalen Hurts ahead of playoff matchup image

The San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles will meet on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field for the first round of the NFC playoffs.

It will be the first time the two teams have met in the postseason since the 2022 NFC Championship game, when the 49ers lost all of their quarterbacks to injury en route to a 31-7 defeat in Philadelphia.

At this point, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan is fairly familiar with the Eagles and their personnel, and he unveiled his true thoughts on Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Kyle Shanahan analyzes Jalen Hurts' game ahead of Wildcard matchup

Addressing the media this week ahead of the Wildcard Weekend matchup, Shanahan was asked what makes such a unique and successful quarterback.

"I mean, one he's got a big-time arm. So I mean with those wide outs and stuff he has, he's capable of making any throw - whether on time - or whether extremely late because - usually when a quarterback's late, you can't throw it that far and catch up with those guys, he can, so you got to honor the entire field with them," Shanahan told reporters via Sports Illustrated's Grant Cohn.

"And anytime you have a quarterback who's capable of doing that, who also is a threat, every single play throughout an entire game with his legs, it's an issue whether he uses it or not."

Shanahan paid respect to the Super Bowl MVP, but also subtly pointed out Hurts' propensity to sometimes be late with his throws or not utilize his legs.

It will be interesting to see what kind of gameplan Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh cook up for the Eagles on Sunday.
