Heading into the postseason, there was optimism that the San Francisco 49ers could get back their All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner in time for the second round of the NFL playoffs.
Warner has been recovering from a fractured ankle suffered in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Unfortunately, it seems the 49ers will have to win one more game before they can expect to get back one of their best defensive players.
"49ers LB Fred Warner will not be activated off injured reserve ahead of Saturday’s game in Seattle for the divisional round, per HC Kyle Shanahan.," wrote ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter in a post on X.
Fred Warner will not suit up against the Seahawks
San Francisco has been dealing with defensive injuries all season, so this will be nothing new for defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and his staff.
Veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks will be relied on heavily against the Seattle Seahawks, as he was in their Wildcard matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kendricks recorded 10 tackles and two tackles for loss in the 23-19 victory.
Linebacker Garrett Wallows will also see increased reps against Seattle. He led the 49ers in total tackles on Sunday with 11.
