49ers' Christian McCaffrey gets promising injury update from NFL insider image

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey raised alarm bells on Thursday afternoon after it was revealed he was added to the injury report.

McCaffrey was labeled limited following the Thursday session with a calf injury, which is particularly troubling because he dealt with a calf issue in 2024, when McCaffrey was limited to just four games.

However, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero offered a positive injury update on Friday morning. The insider revealed that there doesn't appear to be any big concern with McCaffrey's latest injury issue within the 49ers' building.

Christian McCaffrey injury update

Here's what Pelissero reported on McCaffrey's injury:

"I do not get the sense based on the conversations I've had so far that there are alarm bells going off about Christian McCaffrey at this point," Pelissero said.

"If there is any player you are going to take precautions with if he feels something in practice, it's the guy who's arguably you best player and missed most of last season because of a variety of different elements," Pelissero added.

"We also know that calf injuries can be tricky," Pelissero explained. "At time they are precursors to Achilles injuries. McCaffrey had issues with both his Achilles last year. Again, I do not get the sense that this is DEFCON 1."

The 49ers will release their final injury report of the week on Friday, and head coach Kyle Shanahan will address the media, also, so we'll know more about McCaffrey then.

If the veteran running back can't suit up, the 49ers will likely rely heavily on fellow back Brian Robinson Jr., who was acquired in a trade with the Washington Commanders last month.
