The minute-by-minute updates on Christian McCaffrey's calf injury continue.
NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco shared a few details from Friday's practice, at least the part of it open to the media to see the San Francisco 49ers in action.
The first update from Maiocco:
"RB Christian McCaffrey is working on a side field as the 49ers begin their Friday practice. He was listed as a limited participant in Thursday’s practice with an unspecified calf condition."

About four minutes later, he added this:
"Christian McCaffrey is not with his teammates as they go through pre-practice routine. It’s unclear whether he will practice today or just go through physical therapy."
And then 13 minutes after that, Maiocco posted this:
"During the brief window that is open to the media, 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey was on a side field while his teammates began going through drills. McCaffrey was with Mike Sola, a member of the team's athletic training staff with the title of director, reconditioning."
McCaffrey's calf injury wasn't on the Wednesday injury report but showed up on Thursday's, and he didn't speak to the media at his usual time on Thursday.
McCaffrey also dealt with Achilles tendinitis last year. Given the calf's proximity to the Achilles, if it's in the same leg, it's a greater concern, too.

Coming off a 6-11 season, the 49ers need McCaffrey on the field to open this new campaign Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
When he's healthy, he's awesome.
Two seasons ago, McCaffrey was the best running back in football. He led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards, scored 14 touchdowns, and also caught 67 passes for 564 yards and seven more TDs.
But last season, McCaffrey only got on the field for four games as he battled two separate injuries. He carried 50 times for 202 yards (4.0 ypc) and had 15 catches for 146 yards.
The football world continues to wait for a more concrete status of CMC.
