The San Francisco 49ers are making the trip to face the Philadelphia Eagles to begin their playoff run this season. While it's not an easy matchup, there's one player who will have a bit more to play for.
49ers edge rusher Bryce Huff played with the Eagles in 2024, and it went very poorly. While the team won the Super Bowl, he was a healthy inactive despite being a $50 million-plus free agent signing.
Now, set to face his former team, ESPN's Ben Solak predicts that Huff will get some revenge against the Eagles this weekend despite his lower sack-total this season.
49ers' DE Bryce Huff predicted to get revenge against Eagles
"Niners DE Bryce Huff will get a key sack," Solak predicts. "Huff is the 49ers' best shot at edge pressure, and he has a quick first step that can challenge Eagles LT Jordan Mailata. Huff has been struggling mightily of late, but expect an impassioned performance here."
Huff hasn't been the best player this season for the 49ers. On the season, he has 30 total tackles, 14 solo, with four sacks and two forced fumbles on the year.
The 49ers have needed pass rush help in a big way, and while Huff's overall numbers don't look that bad, his four sacks all came in the first six weeks of the season. He's not gotten a sack since October 19th.
But, Solak is predicting that not only will Huff get a sack against his former team in the playoffs, but it will be a key sack for his new team.

While he doesn't outright predict the 49ers will win because of this sack, for Huff, such a play would be a good way to get revenge against his former team.
Huff's time in Philadelphia went very poorly, and now reunited with Robert Saleh, he's hoping to turn the corner and become the elite pass rusher he showed he was in 2023.
With Nick Bosa out and the rest of the edge rusher room barren, Huff will be relied upon in this Wild Card matchup against the Eagles. A big sack would be a huge boost for the 49ers, especially since the Eagles' offense is far from the best in the NFL.
One negative play could send them in a tailspin, and Huff, playing more impassioned than some of his teammates as he's facing his former team, could make the difference-making play this weekend for the 49ers.
