The Pittsburgh Steelers took a good chance with their addition of Juan Thornhill this season.
It didn't even last the whole year, though.
On Monday, the Steelers released Thornhill.
Thornhill will first go on waivers. He could be claimed, but if he passes through, he'll become a free agent.
Bills are signing wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the practice squad, per source.

Why did the Steelers release Juan Thornhill?
The Steelers released Thornhill simply because he isn't playing enough.
In Week 10, Thornhill got just nine special teams snaps and didn't take the field on defense.
Pittsburgh recently traded for a new safety, Kyle Dugger, from the Patriots. Dugger started on Sunday Night Football.

Dugger is one more guy ahead of Thornhill on the depth chart, and that made him expendable.
Thornhill is a veteran who should quickly latch on elsewhere, likely with a contender dealing with safety injuries (the Buffalo Bills come to mind).
