When is Aaron Rodgers coming back? Injury update, return timeline for Steelers QB image

TL;DR

  • Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers will miss Week 12 against the Chicago Bears due to a wrist fracture.
  • Rodgers is expected to return to the lineup for Week 13, according to NFL Network reporters.
  • Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback for the Steelers in Week 12.
  • Aaron Rodgers will serve as the emergency third quarterback for the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially made a decision on quarterback Aaron Rodgers for Week 12.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed to CBS that Rodgers will sit out on Sunday against the Chicago Bears after suffering a small fracture in his non-throwing wrist last week.

Now that Rodgers is ruled out for Week 12, we turn our attention to Week 13 to see if the future Hall of Fame quarterback will be back on the field then.

Here's what we know.

When can we expect Aaron Rodgers to return?

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport indicates that Rodgers is anticipated to require no more than a week's absence and is expected back in the lineup for Week 13.

"Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers has been pushing to play against the Bears, but in the end, it was too quick, per me and Tom Pelissero," Rapoport wrote.

"Rodgers should play next week, but the turnaround was just too quick. Mason Rudolph starts against the Bears."

It was always clear that Rodgers was close to playing after he was able to take part in practice on a limited basis last week, so it's no surprise he's expected to return in Week 13.

While this theoretically gives Rodgers extra time to heal, it's going to take more than a few weeks to fully recover from this injury.

Until that happens, Rodgers is going to be at a high risk of making it worse.

Mason Rudolph will start for The Steelers in Week 12 with Rodgers out, and rookie Will Howard will be his backup.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Rodgers will serve as the emergency third quarterback.
