The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly hiring Mike McCarthy as their head coach and that has led many to wonder if this increases the chances of Aaron Rodgers coming back for another season.
After all, McCarthy and Rodgers spent several years together with the Green Bay Packers, where they won a Super Bowl together.
However, Rodgers and McCarthy also had a rocky relationship in the later years of their stint together, so it isn't a lock that Rodgers returns to Pittsburgh just because McCarthy is now the head coach.
Back in 2022, when Rodgers was still with the Packers and McCarthy was the head coach of the Cowboys, Rodgers revealed that time had healed whatever issues the two had, which he hinted were overblown to begin with.
"I think time always can be a great healer, not that there needed to be a lot of healing in our relationship. There was always so much love," Rodgers said, according to The Athletic's Matt Schneidman.
"That’s always gonna connect us and bond us, and with time, it’s just increased the greater gratitude that I have for him, the time we spent together, the love I have for him and the appreciation for what he meant to my career," Rodgers added when speaking on their bond from winning a Super Bowl together.
Whatever rift McCarthy and Rodgers had appears to be water under the bridge at this point, at least in the eyes of Rodgers.
That at least puts Rodgers in play to return to Pittsburgh to play for his old head coach, although his exact future plans remain unclear.
