The New York Jets had a surprise inactive ahead of their Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that should lead to general manager Omar Khan inquiring about a trade.

According to the Jets' list of inactives, wide receiver Allen Lazard is on it. That's a surprise because Lazard was not listed on the team's injury report this week and he was listed as a starter on the Jets' depth chart.

Making the decision more surprising, the Jets don't have a strong situation at wide receiver, something the Steelers can relate to.

With Lazard being inactive and apparently not having a role in New York, it looks as though he might be expendable.

The Steelers should inquire about a trade. After all, the team has a shaky situation at wide receiver behind DK Metcalf, with no clear-cut No. 2 option in the offense.

Lazard could fill that role, and he has experience catching passes from Aaron Rodgers from their stints together with the Green Bay Packers and Jets. There's no doubt Rodgers wouldn't mind having Lazard in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers and Jets still have a game to navigate against one another in Week 1, but after that, it's conceivable the two sides could get on the phone to work out a trade.
