The future at the quarterback position for the Pittsburgh Steelers remains incredibly murky, even after the draft selection of Will Howard.

All signs point to the Steelers signing Aaron Rodgers, but the 41-year-old signal-caller isn't likely to be around beyond 2025, which would lave the Steelers in the same boat they're currently in. Howard gives at least a glimmer of hope for the future, but he's just a sixth-round pick and isn't guaranteed to pan out.

With the uncertainty surrounding Pittsburgh's quarterback situation, Steelers Wire's Curt Popejoy projects the team will draft South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft.

"We can't wait to see Sellers take that next step as a quarterback in 2025. Last season, Sellers had a breakout season with 2,534 passing yards in 12 games, along with 674 rushing yards. Sellers accounted for 25 total touchdowns," Popejoy wrote.

"His mobility and athleticism makes him a first-round prospect now and if he can clean up his passing game he could end up in the top half of the round."

Sellers got his first opportunity to start in 2024 and went on to complete 65.6% of his passes for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns to seven picks. He added 674 rushing yards and another seven scores to give him 28 career touchdowns over two years in college.

Sellers is an electric playmaker on the ground thanks to his elite athleticism, but he also sports the kind of arm talent that gives him an incredibly high ceiling if he can continue to develop in that area.

The South Carolina star effortlessly puts zip on his passes and can launch the ball downfield with the best of them, although he does need work on his touch and anticipation.

It remains to be seen if Sellers will enter the draft next year off just two years as a starter, but if he takes a step forward in 2025 and improves on the aforementioned areas, he could be a first-round prospect and someone the Steelers target.
