The Pittsburgh Steelers are still on the hunt for a head coach after Mike Tomlin stepped down from his position on January 13.
Pittsburgh has kicked off its search by interviewing a plethora of candidates around the league, but apparently, the franchise is also interested in a certain college coach.
According to Brian Baldinger of NFL Network, the Steelers are 'very interested' in Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal.
"Not out here trying to play reporter or doing any of that nonsense, but I hear the Steelers are very interested in Mario Cristobal, the coach at the University of Miami,” Baldinger said on The Best Football Show podcast. "I think Mario Cristobal actually would really translate to the NFL. I watched his practice in the spring. The way that Mario coached that team reminded me of what old-school coaches used to do."
Cristobal has served as the head coach of Miami since 2022, leading the team to a 35-19 record and a National Championship Game appearance in 2025 over four years.
The 55-year-old also previously served as the head coach of Florida International and Oregon, so Cristobal is very experienced in the college ranks.
It's hard to imagine Cristobal leaving Miami after he led the school to their best season in over a decade, but if he was offered the Steelers' job, it could entice him.
Pittsburgh likely wants an established leader as its head coach, and Cristobal fits that description, though he doesn't have any NFL experience.
