The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, which leaves the team short at wide receiver. And, with that, the first call the Steelers make should be to the Green Bay Packers for one of Aaron Rodgers' former teammates.

With Pickens gone, the Steelers are left with DK Metcalf and a bunch of questionable options at wide receiver, which was also the case last season. That group will not be appealing to Rodgers, who the team is still waiting on.

While the Pickens trade isn't expected to impact Rodgers' decision, per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, that doesn't change the fact that the team needs an upgrade at the position.

The Packers are a team that the Steelers should be keeping an eye on, especially as it pertains to wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who many have speculated could be a trade candidate since last season.

In 2024, Doubs was unhappy with his role, which led to a one-game suspension.

Then in 2025, the Packers made their wide receivers room even more crowded by drafting Matthew Golden in the first round of the NFL draft, a selection that may make Doubs expendable.

While Doubs isn't a surefire No. 2 option, he has shown the potential to be one, and he is familiar with Rodgers, who he spent his rookie campaign with.

Doubs has twice eclipsed 600 yards, including a career-high 674 in 2023. Despite his issues in 2024 and missing four games in total, Doubs posted 601 yards and likely would have surpassed his career high had he played in more games. That yardage total would've ranked second among Steelers wideouts last season.

With a far less crowded situation in Pittsburgh, Doubs would have an opportunity to truly shine, especially with Metcalf taking a ton of pressure off him. Adding to that, Doubs is only 25, so his best football could still be in front of him and the Packers wideout could serve as a long-term solution if everything pans out.

The concern is that Doubs is on the final year of his rookie deal and could end up leaving for nothing in 2026.

However, with Doubs unlikely to cost more than a Day 3 pick (fifth round?), and with the Steelers having a whopping 12 picks in the 2026 NFL draft, they can afford to take a swing on him.
