Steelers' Aaron Rodgers gets 'pay bump' contract update involving 2026, possible retirement image

Everyone is sort of assuming this will be Aaron Rodgers' final NFL season.

He has hinted at possible retirement multiple times, and at 42 years old, the Pittsburgh Steelers QB is certainly at an age where most players have hung up their cleats.

But what if Rodgers wants to come back? Then what?

Well, he'd be a free agent, which at first creates a little intrigue but may not actually be all that interesting.

If Rodgers chooses to come back, it seems like he'd definitely stick with the Steelers.

"It wouldn’t shock me that if the Steelers do make the playoffs, he opts to play one more season (with a pay bump)," The Ringer's Austin Gayle writes. "That said, I don’t see a situation in which he plays anywhere but Pittsburgh in 2026—if he plays at all. He is one of the 10 best pending free agents because he’s still doing a decent job at playing the most important position in football. But I don’t expect multiple teams to bid for him in the offseason."

As Gayle writes, the Steelers would probably pay Rodgers a bit more to play for them in 2026 than they have in 2025.

This season, Rodgers' contract was considered a one-year deal worth $13.65 million.

Of that, $10 million was a signing bonus, and the $3.65 million was the base salary.

With a slight raise, Rodgers could very well be back for 2026, if the Steelers want him.
