Maybe this happens more than teams let on.

But generally, it doesn't seem like there are too many instances in which quarterbacks have taken the field in the NFL while dealing with broken bones or fractures.

There will be at least two doing so on Sunday.

Aaron Rodgers is going to quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Buffalo Bills with fractures in his left wrist. The Sunday morning report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport indicates that there are actually three separate fractures in Rodgers' non-throwing wrist.

Jones will be the Colts' QB against the Houston Texans despite having a fractured fibula (otherwise known as the calf bone). News of that only emerged during the lead-in to Week 13, although it's not exactly clear when the injury itself may have taken place.

Both these teams need their star quarterbacks to play. Their chances of getting into the playoffs or contending for division titles depend on it.

And so both QBs will be out on the field on Sunday, likely playing through a lot of pain and hoping to avoid a particular hit that could exacerbate the pain.

There isn't any inherent connection here between Jones and Rodgers, aside from the fact that they were both free agents in the offseason who have ended up being good signings for their respective teams.

It's just fascinating that in one week, two NFL quarterbacks are playing through broken bones rather than letting them heal.

It certainly feels noteworthy, or at least like a rather startling coincidence.
