Things got very heated during the Pittsburgh Steelers' training camp practice on Thursday, as multiple players were involved in skirmishes during the session.
The most notable fight occurred between wide receiver DK Metcalf and safety Chuck Clark, and it saw actual punches thrown.
"Now we have Chuck Clark throwing punches at DK Metcalf for … some reason. Very chippy day," Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
"DK Metcalf heated. Couple dust ups after making a catch. Not sure what happened but Metcalf is mad," Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot wrote.
Then, there was another dust-up between tight end Jonnu Smith and safety Juan Thornhill, both of whom had to be separated.
"I’m not sure what upside down we’re in at this morning’s practice, but Jalen Ramsey just broke up a fight between Jonnu Smith and Juan Thornhill," ESPN's Brooke Pryor explained. "Smith cooked Thornhill on the route, made the catch and then threw the ball at him. Thornhill popped up and the two started scrapping."
Ramsey wasn't just playing peacemaker, though, as he got into a spat with wide receiver Roc Taylor after fellow wideout Calvin Austin lost a one-on-one rep with Ramsey. Sophomore wideout Roman Wilson broke it up.
"Jalen Ramsey and Calvin Austin went against each other in a rematch of a one-on-one release drill," Pryor wrote. "Ramsey forced Austin out to win the rep and immediately started chirping.
"WR Roc Taylor took exception to Ramsey’s trash talk and the two ended up toe-to-toe. Wilson de-escalated," Pryor added.
Things had been mostly quiet when it comes to scuffles at Steelers training camp, but it was just a matter of time before that changed.
