The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another running back.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers are signing running back Raheem Blackshear to the practice squad.
A former undrafted free-agent signing of the Buffalo Bills, Blackshear has appeared in 41 games (two starts) over three seasons in the NFL, with all of those games coming with the Carolina Panthers from 2022-24.
Blackshear has tallied 3.9 yards per carry during his career and has some receiving ability out of the backfield, also.
But the Steelers are likely signing Blackshear to return kicks and/or punts. The 26-year-old has averaged 26.3 yards per kick return during his career and 8.7 yards per punt return.
Pittsburgh's kick return situation has been a fluid situation in recent weeks after the team demoted rookie running back Kaleb Johnson following his Week 2 blunder against the Seattle Seahawks.
Since then, the team has deployed both Kenneth Gainwell and Trey Sermon, who has been elevated from the practice squad the last few weeks.
The Steelers have a bigger issue at the punt return spot thanks to an injury to Calvin Austin, who is expected to miss some time with a shoulder injury. Austin returned both punts for the Steelers in Week 4.
