The Pittsburgh Steelers have been hunting for another viable starting receiver for months, as trading away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys has left a gaping hole in the position group.
In June, free agent receiver Gabe Davis visited Pittsburgh but left without a deal. However, with Davis still looking for a new team after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in May, the veteran is taking another visit to meet with the Steelers.
The news came from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday, who added that Pittsburgh is continuing its search for a receiver.
"Former Jaguars and Bills WR Gabe Davis is flying back to Pittsburgh today and is scheduled to visit the Steelers on Tuesday for a second time this off-season, per source. Steelers continue seeking WR help," Schefter said on X.
Davis played just ten games last year due to a torn meniscus, but he wasn't very productive even when on the field. The 26-year-old tallied just 20 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns.
Though Davis is coming off a down year, the UCF product could still be a decent deep-threat and complementary piece in Pittsburgh's receiver room. Davis would provide adequate production and take some pressure off DK Metcalf.
Additionally, signing Davis shouldn't be expensive. The Steelers still have $19 million in cap space, so they have the resources to make a move before the season.
Overall, Davis isn't a high-level starting receiver, but the former Buffalo Bill is one of the best options on the market at this point in the offseason. The receiver-needy Steelers should look to sign the speedy receiver who once posted 836 yards as a member of the Bills in 2022.
