Pittsburgh Steelers' DeShon Elliott confirms major issue with Miami Dolphins image

Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott just confirmed something about the Miami Dolphins that their fans aren't going to like.

Elliott was a guest on teammate Cam Heyward's "Not Just Football" podcast and was asked about the idea that the Dolphins have a bad culture under head coach Mike McDaniel.

Elliott, who spent one season with the Dolphins in 2023, had no issue confirming that is indeed true.

"Duh," Elliott said to Heyward. "Everyone knows that though, bro. It's funny. Look, we have two guys that just left the team and came here. Everyone knows that. Even the players, they know that."

Following the 2024 season, McDaniel pretty much admitted there were culture issues with his team when he revealed that fining players was not a solution to disciplinary issues within the team.

"I can fine people til they're blue in the face," McDaniel said. "One thing I did learn during the course of the season is that fining guys ... didn’t particularly move the needle in the way we need to, so I’ll adjust as I should as the head coach."

The two players Elliott is talking about are cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith, both of whom were traded to Pittsburgh in the deal that sent Minkah Fitzpatrick to South Beach.

In the wake of the trade, reports saying Ramsey had "undermined" his head coach in Miami and was part of the culture issues there surfaced. There were no such rumors about Smith, who had publicly made it clear he wanted to stay.

When it comes to the Steelers' culture, Elliott pointed out that the situation is much better in Pittsburgh than in Miami.

"This is way better than Miami, obviously," Elliott said. "It is, bro. [Pittsburgh's] a championship-caliber team. Come on now."

We'd beg to differ that the Steelers are a "championship-caliber team" in 2025, but rumblings about issues within the locker room aren't anywhere near as prevalent.

But, lest we forget, the Steelers did have issues in 2024.

George Pickens' behavior was out of control at some points and the defense had its fair share of communication issues that players weren't afraid to talk about publicly.

Pickens has since been traded to alleviate that problem, but it remains to be seen if the communication issues have been resolved. Brandin Echols brought up that problem following the joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so that's something to keep a close eye on throughout 2025.

No team is ever going to be perfect and completely without issues, but some teams have more than others. The Dolphins appear to be on the higher end of that spectrum.
