Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin revealed a second-year defensive back is on the roster bubble heading into the final week of preseason.

Austin stated on Monday that cornerback Beanie Bishop has some work to do this week to put his name back into the picture.

"He's really got to fight and work to make some splash to put himself in the picture," Austin said via Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

Bishop started six games for the Steelers at slot corner last season, snagging four interceptions and tallying seven passes defended.

The 25-year-old looked to be a future piece on Pittsburgh's defense, but with the additions of Jalen Ramsey and Brandin Echols this offseason, it looks like Bishop has plummeted down the depth chart.

Through two preseason games, Bishop has posted seven tackles and two passes defended. The 2024 undrafted free agent has played decent, but will need to put together an elite performance versus the Carolina Panthers on Thursday to bolster his chances of making the roster.

With Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay locking up the boundary corner spots, and Ramsey working in the slot with Echols as the backup, it's tough to see a place where Bishop could fit. However, teams will always consider keeping playmakers.

Bishop was a ball magnet during his rookie campaign in 2024. He's going to need to recapture that form in the final preseason game and try to make a final push for a roster spot.
