NFL hands down punishment to Steelers' Jalen Ramsey after Ja'Marr Chase incident image

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Rams ey has officially avoided a suspension.

According to On SI's Jay Morrison, Ramsey was fined $14,491 for striking Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase in the Week 11 contest.

Ramsey was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for the action and was ejected from the contest as a result.

Of course, Ramsey hit Chase in retaliation for the Bengals wide receiver spitting on him before that. Chase denied the allegation, but it was later revealed clearly on video that he was indeed guilty.

As a result, Chase has been suspended one game for his action and will sit out the Week 12 game against the New England Patriots. The suspension will also cost Chase over $500,000 in pay.

There was precedent for the NFL to suspend Ramsey, as two different players have been given a one-game ban this season for doing the same thing he did.

Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was suspended for striking Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster after the Week 6 contest.

Also, Washington Commanders defensive lineman Daron Payne was suspended for a game for striking Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in Week 10.

It remains unclear exactly why Ramsey suffered the same fate, but we would guess the NFL took it easier on him because he had spit hurled at him beforehand.
