Electric 28-TD quarterback predicted to replace Steelers' Aaron Rodgers, Will Howard image

Over the last five months, the Pittsburgh Steelers have watched quarterbacks Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen leave in free agency, and general manager Omar Khan has brought in Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and sixth-round pick Will Howard to fill the empty position room.

While Rudolph and Howard are currently under contract beyond the 2025 season, Rodgers and Thompson will become unrestricted free agents at the end of the year.

With that knowledge, Steelers general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin should look to add at least one quarterback next offseason through a trade, free agency of the draft.

Recently, WalterFootball's Charlie Campbell produced a mock draft for the 2026 NFL draft, and in it, he projected the Steelers will take South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers in the first round (No. 21 overall).

Sellers, 19, was a three-star prospect out of South Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. While he originally committed to Virginia and then to Syracuse, he ultimately landed on South Carolina.

In 2023, Sellers spent the year as Spencer Rattler's backup, appearing in three games and completing all four of his passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns while adding another 51 yards and a score with his legs.

Sellers entered last season as the Gamecocks starter and he led the team to an 8-4 record while completing 64.8% of his passes for 2,520 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added an addition 674 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground on his was to All-SEC honors.

Obviously, there's a full year between now and the 2026 NFL draft, so Sellers could have a great year and boost his stock even more, or he could fall off  and decide not to come out in a class that's considered strong at his position.

If the Steelers are in position to take one of the top quarterbacks in next year's draft, they should be jumping at the opportunity to find long-term stability at the most important position in football, especially considering they've lacked it since Ben Roethlisberger retired.
