It didn't take long for former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Juan Thornhill to find a new home.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Monday that they have signed Thornhill to the practice squad.

Thornhill was signed by the Steelers during the offseason after he was cut by the Cleveland Browns following an unsuccessful two-year stint.

The veteran safety played a prominent role in the Steelers' defense over his first five contests, but his playing time quickly diminished to the point that he didn't play any defensive snaps over his final two games before being cut.

The trade acquisition of Kyle Dugger certainly didn't help, and even when it appeared that Thornhill might have an opening to get more playing time in the wake of the DeShon Elliott injury, the Steelers deployed Jalen Rams ey instead.

Head coach Mike Tomlin also revealed that Thornhill's play simply "wasn't up to snuff."

“The play wasn’t up to snuff. And Castro was available to us, we went through the team development process with Castro," Tomlin said. "Thought he had a good camp, a good preseason. He played his tail off in that practice against the Bucs, I think that’s why they stole him from us. We had an opportunity to re-acquire him, we’ve observed some attrition since he left, and so it was an opportunity to get him back. It was more about Castro and less about Juan.”

Now, Thornhill will get a fresh start in Jacksonville, where he'll look to advance past the practice squad and secure himself a role on the 53-man roster.
