Cowboys' George Pickens has wild explanation for negative comment about Steelers image

We knew it was only a matter of time before George Pickens said something negative about the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that time came on Sunday — or did it?

Pickens allegedly posted a negative comment about the Steelers on Instagram on Sunday, calling the franchise cheap.

He went on to delete the comment, but not before the internet was able to grab a screenshot. We've linked to the screenshot below, but warning: NSFW language.

"They the cheapest organization," Pickens wrote. "Ain't no stacking year after year they gone let them [expletive] go too soon as it's time."

It wasn't long before Pickens addressed the situation, and he did so in a wild way.

Pickens posted to Instagram (his account is now private) that the screenshot was not real and was instead AI generated. He then went on to claim that he was happy "for everything the Steel City" did for him.

"Literally on a plane. No service," he said. "Just landed and seen straight lies from Pitt fans. Stop with AI trying to make a story. I'm happy for everything the Steel City did for me. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there."

While we'd like to give Pickens the benefit of the doubt, it's hard to knowing what we know about him from his days with the Steelers. Pickens was routinely sporting a bad attitude and we have no doubt that he has ill will toward his former team.

The comment about the Steelers being cheap is just wrong. Based on his comment, it would appear he believes that's the cause of him not getting a contract extension with the Steelers. However, that is all on Pickens, plain and simple.

Pittsburgh simply couldn't trust him thanks to his volatile behavior, which included showing up late to work, and a bad attitude, all of which was a problem in the Steelers' locker room.

That's why the Steelers happily gave DK Metcalf a $132 million contract instead of handing one to Pickens, who will now look to earn his own deal in a contract year with the Cowboys.
