As the Pittsburgh Steelers and the rest of the NFL world continue to wait on Aaron Rodgers' decision, an insider offered a firm date that he thinks will be the deadline for the future Hall of Famer's long-awaited decision.
Rodgers has made it clear that he's deciding between playing in 2025, and retirement, although he did not say when that decision will come.
"I'm open to anything and attached to nothing," he said to Pat McAfee. "Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been -- and will continue to be -- on my personal life.
With the Steelers' mandatory minicamp coming up in June, ESPN's Adam Schefter is of the opinion that we'll get a decision from Rodgers shortly before that.
"I think the Steelers' mandatory minicamp is next month," he said. "Forget the exact date, roughly June 10th. I would think that we would get a decision from Aaron Rodgers shortly before then about whether or not he should play.
"To me, you can't miss mandatory minicamp where you start gearing up. I guess you can, but it's not ideal," Schefter concluded.
Schefter has the date correct, as per the team's official site, Pittsburgh will begin its mandatory minicamp on June 10.
But expecting anything out of Rodgers at this point would be silly.
This is a guy who marches to the beat of his own drum and it would not be surprising at all if he were to drag this thing out until training camp.
Should Rodgers sign with the Steelers before mandatory minicamp and attend it? Of course.
Will he? Who knows.
