After Sunday’s big win in Baltimore, Aaron Rodgers was reminded why he wanted to be a part of the Steelers. Meaningful December games like that are exactly why he came to Pittsburgh, and he’s been impressed by how coach Mike Tomlin leads the team.
“Mike hasn’t changed,” Rodgers said. “Every week he’s prepared, keeps the team focused, and knows how to lead without overdoing it. He keeps a pulse on the team and the energy, and that makes my job a lot easier.”
Rodgers has said before that Tomlin was a big reason he came to Pittsburgh. Watching him in action only confirms it. “He’s been here almost two decades, never had a losing season. He’s clear, concise, and knows when to speak and when to let the team play. That’s a huge deal,” Rodgers added.
The Steelers’ win over the Ravens gave them first place in the AFC North and kept Tomlin on track for 19 straight non-losing seasons. Rodgers says that culture of winning—something he saw in Green Bay—is what makes Pittsburgh special.
“Winning is part of the foundation here,” Rodgers said. “Guys understand it, and having a coach like Tomlin leading the way makes all the difference.”
Even with some fans calling for change, Rodgers and his teammates aren’t worried. From their perspective, Tomlin’s leadership is exactly what the Steelers need, and fans should realize that how they evaluate results of games does not reflect how players feel about their coach.
