In light of the team’s current two-game skid, Philadelphia Eagles legend Seth Joyner had some harsh criticism for star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
Throughout the season, Brown has consistently complained after wins because he was unhappy with his own lack of involvement in the offense. Over the last two games, Brown has had his two best statistical performances of the season.
He had eight receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown in Week 12 against the Dallas Cowboys and followed that up with 10 receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns against the Chicago Bears in Week 12. The Eagles lost both of those games, and coincidentally, or not, we didn’t hear complaints from Brown after the losses. Joyner took umbrage with that.
"A lot of people are going to be pissed at me, and he might even be pissed at me, but in a lot of ways he's a typical wide receiver—21st century wide receiver diva and he's selfish because when he was getting the ball on a regular basis, there was no complaining,” Joyner said of Brown. “The Eagles lost two games in a row, and A.J. Brown had nine-plus targets and a touchdown. You ain't complaining now? That tells me that all of that bitching and moaning was really self-centered."
Seth Joyner does not hold back, calling out Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown:

It's tough to disagree with Joyner here. Brown’s complaints after wins were largely received as selfish and distracting, even though he tried to paint them as team-oriented concerns. It got to the point that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie even had to step in. Brown wasn't wrong in his messaging that the offense needs to be better, but he could have approached it in a better, more private way.
Now suddenly Brown has two good games individually, and the public complaints and cryptic social media posts have ceased. Perhaps it’s a complete coincidence, but maybe it’s not. After all, this is the same guy who basically said that his satisfaction in the game comes from individual success, as opposed to winning at the highest level as a team after Philadelphia’s Super Bowl victory.
Brown is an awesome football player, and he’s been central to the Eagles’ success in recent years. However his public actions this season make him seem selfish and people are noticing.
