The Philadelphia Eagles' offensive struggles narrative has jumped the shark by making quarterback Jalen Hurts the focal point of the criticism. There are many issues plaguing the Eagles' offense in 2025, but anonymous teammates blaming Hurts for much of it is lame.
Per The Athletic's Diana Russini, "multiple Eagles offensive players have grown frustrated" in the way Hurts has approached his play this season. The reported criticism includes everything from being tentative with his downfield passing to not executing as the game plan intended in practice.
According to another Eagles insider Derrick Gunn, that frustration extends to the coaching staff, who have felt Hurts throws off the rhythm by holding the ball too long. Hurts has also been knocked for not being aggressive in throwing the ball into tight windows when his wide receivers see tough coverage and being deliberate with his release.
To Hurts' credit, he has taken accountability for some of the things he hasn't done well at times this season. But because Hurts is a true team leader who respects his teammates, he didn't take the time to throw his great success in only five seasons as the Eagles' starter right in their nameless faces.
If Hurts had done that, he might have pointed to all the things he has done well, including winning Super Bowl 59 MVP to help deliver rings to those same teammates. Here are the key Hurts stats that prove his locker-room critics dead wrong:
MORE WEEK 12 NFL:
Jalen Hurts' 2025 passing stats vs. Previous stats
| Stat | Hurts in 2025 (pace) | Hurts before 2025 (17-game average) |
| Passing yards | 3,391 | 3,256 |
| YPA | 7.4 | 7.5 |
| TDs | 27 | 20 |
| INTs | 2 | 8 |
| Comp. Pct | 66.9 | 64.7 |
| Passer rating | 107.0 | 95.1 |
There's only one number that's off here and a significant dropoff from 2024. Hurts matched his career high with 8 yards per attempt last season. The Eagles' downfield passing game hasn't been as effective this season. But that's also tied A.J. Brown not having as much impact and the traditional running game with Saquon Barkley not providing the same foundation to facilitate deep balls.
Hurts is playing closest to his highest level and near the best of his past. There's not much more to say except Hurts has not provided any kind of real basis for concern about his passing.
Jalen Hurts' 2025 rushing stats vs. Previous stats
| Stat | Hurts in 2025 (pace) | Hurts before 2025 (17-game average) |
| Rushes | 124 | 146 |
| Yards | 451 | 664 |
| YPC | 3.6 | 4.5 |
| TDs | 10 | 12 |
The Eagles' offensive line hasn't been as effective in run blocking this season and the Tush Push hasn't been so automatic. Hurts' rushing average is brought down by a lot of short-yardage attempts and there have been far fewer designed runs, with much of the production coming on scrambles instead.
These numbers reflect more the supporting cast and play-calling than Hurts changing his ways as a runner.
Jalen Hurts' overall record as the Eagles' QB
The Eagles are 8-2, with the best record in the NFC. They have wins over the Chiefs, Rams, Buccaneers, Lions and Packers, with their only loss coming against their toughest games on a difficult schedule coming vs. The Broncos. Adding their road win over the Vikings, the Eagles are 6-1 against half of the NFL playoff field from last season.
The Eagles still need to play the Bears, Chargers and Bills. They probably will win two or all of those games, because Hurts just helps them win games, big and small. Hurts is 54-22 in his 76 regular-season starts. He's up to 6-3 in his nine playoff starts.
When just counting games vs. Teams with winning records, including playoffs, Hurts is a historic NFL best 31-15. That record doesn't belong to a quarterback who is tentative or doesn't execute.
What more do his Eagles' anonymous teammates want? More targets? More catches? More points? More individual glory? Because if those Eagles teammates care most about the NFL team bottom line — more wins — Hurts would be literally the last QB who's ever played in the league to criticize.
