With their 29-18 win over the Washington Commanders on Saturday night, the Philadelphia Eagles clinched the NFC East for a second consecutive season. They became the first team to do so in over two decades in the process.

On the field after the win over Washington, Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts reacted to the accomplishment.

“[It] definitely was something that was on our minds,” Hurts said of the back-to-back NFC titles. “It was definitely something that was on my mind for sure. Happy how we came out here and competed and found a way to clinch it.”

Hurts knows that the Eagles have loftier goals than simply raising a division banner, but there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging and appreciating an accomplishment along the way. Wining the division is the goal for every team in the NFL every season, and Philadelphia has done just that.

Hurts was excellent and in complete command against Washington. He completed 22 of his 30 attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 40 yards on the ground and committed no turnovers.

It was the second straight extremely efficient performance from Hurts after the five-turnover disaster he turned in against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Hurts completed 12 of 15 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders last weekend.

Hurts and the Eagles will now be heading to the playoffs for a fifth consecutive year, and they’re guaranteed at least one postseason home game. By locking up the division early, they also afforded themselves an opportunity to potentially rest some key contributors over the final couple weeks of the regular season. It remains to be seen if they’ll actually do that, but the option is there.

Philadelphia will wrap up the regular season with a road game against the Buffalo Bills and a home game against the Commanders.
