The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball throughout the 2025 NFL season, making life difficult for Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. The loss of Lane Johnson was a major blow to the inconsistent offensive unit.
A foot injury has kept Johnson sidelined since he went down in Week 11 against the Detroit Lions. While the update was a huge blow to the thriving Eagles, it was evident that his season might not be over.
The Eagles will close out the 2025 NFL season on Sunday afternoon with a matchup against the Washington Commanders. There isn’t a return in store for the star lineman.
When the Eagles released their injury report on Friday, Johnson was officially ruled out for the regular-season finale. While he was technically ruled out for the remainder of the year, the Eagles start the postseason next weekend, and all signs point to Johnson playing.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport gave Eagles fans something to feel good about this weekend. While the expectation is that Johnson will play, the wording suggests it’s not a sure thing. It would likely take a setback to prevent the All-Pro from hitting the field.
The Eagles’ best-case record they could finish the year with is 12-5. A loss would wrap the season up with an 11-6 record. They have three potential opponents in mind for the Wild Card Round.
One scenario has the Eagles playing the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs for the second year in a row. Another scenario would have the Eagles facing the San Francisco 49ers for the first time in two seasons. The final scenario would be a rematch between the Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams, giving them four meetings in under two seasons.
No matter who the Eagles play, they’ll be the host. If all goes right, Lane Johnson will play bodyguard to Jalen Hurts for the first time in months next weekend.
