Howie Roseman must address one major issue for Philadelphia Eagles before 2025 NFL season image

It's hard to find a better roster builder around the National Football League than Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.

In fact, his track record has been so good in recent years that teams are actually afraid to do business with the Eagles around draft time because they don't want Roseman to get another leg up on them.

The Eagles are after all defending Super Bowl champions and had the chance to bring back essentially every important piece on offense after last season's dominant postseason.

However, on the defensive side of the football there's one major question heading into the 2025 NFL season that still needs addressing with training camp underway.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson's abrupt exit from the Eagles wasn't exactly a shock, however, it did put Philly in a tough spot going from one of the better cover safeties in the league to drafting Texas safety Andrew Makuba in the second round.

While many around the league like Makuba's ball-hawking abilities, he suffered a shoulder injury during Saturday's practice and that leaves the Eagles very thin at his position as they await their next move.

Besides Makuba, the Eagles only have Tristin McCollum and Andre Sam listed for their free safety spots on the depth chart. And unless defensive coordinator Vic Fangio opts to move Cooper DeJean around his secondary there's certainly a need from Roseman and the front office to make a trade or free agent signing.

The two obvious free agent candidates for the Birds are Marcus Wiliams and Justin Simmons, who have been around the NFL for quite some time, but Makuba's injury scare will certainly leave Philadelphia thinking about the position as training camp progresses.
