Former Philadelphia Eagles star safety suffers brutal injury during Houston Texans training camp image

A former Philadelphia Eagles star safety could be out for an extended period of time after suffering a terrible leg injury during NFL training camp Thursday.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson spent two stints with the Birds before being traded away most recently during this offseason, however, Philly will be keeping the former Super Bowl champion in their thoughts after leaving the field in agony at Houston Texans practice.

Aaron Wilson reported Thursday that Gardner-Johnson suffered a "serious" knee injury ahead of the team's first preseason game Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings.

The 27 year old figured to play a huge role this season for the Texans, but now Houston will patiently wait to see his prognosis as the NFL looms in just under a month.

The Eagles are still trying to sort out their own safety concerns after drafting Drew Makuba from Texas in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, while also experimenting with Cooper DeJean slotting in at the position as well.
