The Philadelphia Eagles are beginning their offseason by bringing in a former Kansas City Chiefs running back.

"Former Chiefs RB Carson Steele is signing a futures deal with the Eagles, per his agent Randy Fishier," Tom Pelissero reports.

Steele had a terrific college career at Ball State and UCLA. In 2022, he led the MAC in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns before transferring to UCLA in 2023, where he rushed for 847 yards and six touchdowns.

Steele became a fan-favorite in Kansas City in the 2024 preseason. His play in August earned him a spot on the 53-man roster, where he appeared in all 17 games both as a running back and on special teams. He totaled 183 yards on 56 carries and was part of a Chiefs team that made it to their fifth Super Bowl in seven years.

What's next for the Philadelphia Eagles?

The Eagles face a lot of questions surrounding their offense this coming spring. Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has been under fire all season for the Eagles' offensive struggles. The icing on the cake was a lackluster performance against a San Francisco 49ers defense plagued with several injuries, including Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. Jalen Hurts finished the wild card loss with less than 170 passing yards, and A.J. Brown had just three catches for 25 yards.

Speaking of Brown, his future is also uncertain, considering he had several instances throughout the season in which he expressed frustration with the offense and his usage. If his relationship with the team is beyond repair, a trade could be coming, which would leave the Eagles without a massive part of their offense going forward.

Then there comes the questions about Hurts himself. Patullo surely wasn't perfect, but Hurts clearly regressed in several areas. If any team would get ahead of the curve and move on from Hurts if they see an even steeper decline coming, it's Philadelphia. They did it with Carson Wentz in favor of Hurts, and they'd do it again.
