The Philadelphia Eagles needed some reinforcements.
They've got three injuries moving off the active roster, and replacements are coming into the picture.
On Wednesday, the Eagles placed Nolan Smith, Darius Cooper and Jakorian Bennett on Injured Reserve. All are expected to be back this season, per multiple reports. Smith is the big loss from the linebacker room.
The Eagles had three openings on the 53-man roster.
To fill them, they signed:
- Marcus Epps, a safety
- Cam Latu, a tight end
- Parry Nickerson, a cornerback

And with those moves up from the practice squad, the Eagles had three spots they could fill on that portion of the roster.
Philly's new practice squad players:
- Lance Dixon, a linebacker
- Eli Ricks, a defensive back
- Quez Watkins, a wide receiver
Watkins is a familiar face who has bounced around the NFL but shown big-play potential in his past.
The Eagles are trying to defend their Super Bowl title, and one of the things that can ruin a championship defense is injury trouble. Championship teams often stay rather healthy relative to their competition.
Philadelphia should be able to overcome these injuries, but it's just a bit of a warning that things could go sideways quickly if injuries hit more important portions of the roster.
For now, the Eagles will try to make do with what they have, which is still a very strong group, one that just came back from 26-7 down to beat the Rams on Sunday.
