Eagles reportedly make $16.8M decision on WR Jahan Dotson’s contract image

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson could be poised for an expanded role in 2025, especially if starting tight end Dallas Goedert is traded during this week’s NFL Draft.

Dotson could also be staring down a contract year, as the Eagles have reportedly made a decision regarding his looming fifth-year option.

National NFL reporter Arye Pulli reported Wednesday that the Eagles will decline Dotson's option for 2026, an expected move considering Over the Cap’s projection of $16.8 million fully guaranteed. While Dotson did his job in 2024 as a low-volume option in Philly’s passing game, his production was nowhere close to that kind of salary value.

Dotson will now be scheduled to hit free agency following the 2025 season. Still just 25 years old, he’ll be looking to leverage a full year and offseason with quarterback Jalen Hurts, who rarely looked his way in Philly’s run-heavy attack in 2024. Dotson finished the regular season with just 33 total receptions for 216 scoreless yards, but he did make the most of his opportunities in the playoffs, snagging five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown, including three catches for 42 yards in Super Bowl LIX.

Fans have been calling for an upgrade at WR3, and the Eagles could add competition for Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith in the 2025 NFL Draft. But despite the team’s decision on his fifth-year option, Dotson checks a lot of boxes for GM Howie Roseman. He’s young, cheap, understands his role, doesn’t complain, and tends to come through when his number is called — that's an ideal WR3 in Nick Sirianni's system, especially with Saquon Barkley dominating touches out of the backfield.

There are probably upgrades available, but the Eagles could do a lot worse than Dotson, who still projects as a regular player in three-wide sets entering draft weekend.
