The tight end position was one GM Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have made a priority this offseason.
With their top two at the position in Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra now entering contract years, the team signed a pair of veteran free agents to work with in Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant. The team currently has seven total tight ends on the 90-man roster, but none of them are signed beyond the 2025 season.
It’s clear that Philly’s next franchise tight end is not currently on the roster, which means more moves could be coming from Roseman in the trade market.

Eagles insider Anthony DiBona recently pitched a trade idea with the Las Vegas Raiders for former No. 36 overall pick Michael Mayer. “Howie Roseman should trade for a young TE on a rookie deal with two years remaining under contract this offseason,” DiBona wrote. “Michael Mayer … would certainly make sense.”
Mayer is definitely an intriguing prospect, as he was expected to be the Raiders’ Brock Bowers … before they landed Bowers with the No. 13 overall pick in 2024.
Bowers went on to shatter several rookie records during last year’s 112-catch debut, and he’s now entrenched as Vegas’ top option in the passing game. That could make Mayer, who has 48 receptions over 25 career games, available via trade entering the penultimate year of his $9.3 million rookie contract.

Philly recently restructured Goedert’s contract to keep him in the fold for Jalen Hurts in 2025. Calcaterra filled the No. 2 tight end role admirably last year, but even with their new additions at the position, the Eagles are thin on high-threat pass catchers behind Goedert.
Roseman typically plans ahead. Would he really open the 2025 season with no tight ends under contract through at least 2026? That feels unlikely, making players like Mayer, or Green Bay’s Luke Musgrave, names to watch around roster cut-down day.
