Eagles make major Dallas Goedert decision after passing on tight ends in NFL draft image

One of the biggest winners from the Philadelphia Eagles’ 10-player 2025 draft class was tight end Dallas Goedert, who’s been seeking an updated contract and has been floated in trade rumors all offseason.

The Eagles passed on drafting Goedert’s potential successor last month, and the veteran now looks poised to remain with the reigning Super Bowl champions as one of Jalen Hurts’ favorite targets.

Per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Goedert has agreed to restructure his current contract to remain with the Eagles. He’ll play out the 2025 season on a one-year, $10 million deal with another $1 million in potential incentives.

The reported deal is similar to the one the team made with EDGE rusher Josh Sweat in 2024. Sweat wound up balling out and cashing in via free agency, and Goedert will now look to do the same entering his age-30 season.

Per McLane, Goedert left money on the table for 2025 to run it back with the Eagles: “Goedert was slated to earn $14.25 million in the final year of the four-year, $57 million extension he signed in November 2021,” he wrote for the Inquirer. “The Eagles were unwilling to commit to that salary with the money not guaranteed, and entertained offers from other teams, according to league sources.

“Goedert had opportunities to leave, but the tight and the Eagles ultimately decided the best course of action was to work on a new deal that keeps him in Philly for the foreseeable future.”

Goedert struggled with various injuries in 2024, including oblique, hamstring and knee issues. He had some serious leverage in offseason extension talks, however, with role players like Grant Calcaterra, Hunter Bryant and Kylen Granson the team’s best options behind him on the depth chart.

The Eagles have been in cost-cutting mode since the start of the new league year, and they ultimately didn't budge. With Goedert taking a haircut and meeting them in the middle, one of the team's major offseason question marks finally has a resolution.
