The Philadelphia Eagles have an important decision to make this weekend. They have to decide which starters should play, and who should sit against the Washington Commanders.
When it comes to the starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, the Eagles are expected to give the veteran passer a week off, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“Eagles are expected to rest QB Jalen Hurts and most starters in the season finale vs. The Commanders, sources told The Inquirer,” wrote Jeff McLane.
“Shouldn’t come as a surprise based on HC Nick Sirianni’s comments when asked about the benefit of having a “bye” week heading into the playoffs.”
The Eagles don’t need Sunday’s win to punch their ticket to the playoffs. After beating the Commanders two weeks ago, Hurts and the Eagles clinched the NFC East. While their seed isn’t set in stone, Philadelphia has to choose between prioritizing health or trying to find a way to pick their opponent.

As far as the latter plan goes, nothing is guaranteed whether starters play or not. The Eagles have a shot at playing one of three opponents: the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, or the Los Angeles Rams.
The Eagles haven’t come out and confirmed that key starters will miss the action on Sunday. Therefore, it’s unclear who will join Hurts in street clothes for the outing.
With Hurts expected to miss the action, the Eagles will likely roll with Tanner McKee as the starter. Throughout his two-year career, McKee has appeared in five games. He has just one start, which occurred last season.
Overall, McKee has completed 68 percent of his 48 passes. He has four touchdowns and zero interceptions.
As for Jalen Hurts, he finishes the 2025 NFL season with 16 games under his belt. He posted an 11-5 record, completing 64 percent of his passes. Hurts tossed for 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. On the ground, Hurts rushed for 421 yards and eight touchdowns.
