The Philadelphia Eagles have the chance to pull themselves out of a 92-year downslope on Thursday night when the defending Super Bowl champions take on the Dallas Cowboys to open the 2025 NFL regular season.

What's at stake? A record that isn't a losing mark.

You see, the Eagles haven't had an all-time record of .500 or better as a franchise since 1933, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

That was the first year of the Eagles' existence. And with two games remaining in the season, they were 3-3-1.

That 1933 team, which was coached by Lud Wray and played in the Baker Bowl, lost its final two games of the season (to the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants) to move to 3-5-1 all time.

They haven't been back to .500 since.

You know it's been a while when the Eagles' three wins in that 1933 season were against the Cincinnati Reds, twice, and once against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Yes, those were football teams back then.

Those 1933 Eagles were led in passing yards for the season by Red Kirkman, who threw for 354 yards with two TDs and 13 interceptions. Swede Hanson was the leading rusher, at 475 yards, and receiver, at 186 yards.

The Eagles went 4-7 the next season, continuing their trend of losing more often than winning.

They've obviously had more successful seasons in this era of football, but their all-time record fell so far behind that it was a hole that couldn't be climbed out of. Until potentially now.

The Eagles would certainly be favored to win 10 or more games this season, which would send them into next year at better than .500.

For now, it's a matter of a Week 1 win.

The Eagles have an all-time mark of 638-639-4.

This is their chance to even it all up for the first time since 1933.
