ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that, besides the Green Bay Packers, another team that was interested in Micah Parsons was the Philadelphia Eagles.
Apparently, the Eagles were dead serious about trading for Parsons.
Schefter tweeted: “One team that made a strong play this summer to try to trade for All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons was none other than the Philadelphia Eagles, per league sources.
The Eagles called the Cowboys to see if they could acquire Parsons and bring him back to Pennsylvania. But the Cowboys had no interest in trading Parsons in the division, especially to the defending Super-Bowl champion Eagles, whom they open with tonight.”
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may have let his emotions get the best of him when it came to Parsons, but not to the extent that he would allow the Eagles to fleece him.
Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman called out Jones for trading Parsons to the Packers. Aikman accused Jones of caring more about publicity than winning.
“I saw Jerry talk about the fact that, having the Cowboys as a discussion point is meaningful to him. And if people aren’t talking about the Cowboys, then he’ll do things to stir it up. So, he kind of walked into that and has given the impression that supersedes winning,” Aikman admitted. “In some ways, I’m sure Jerry and the Jones family, and everyone is tired of the fact that they haven’t been to a championship game, let alone a Super Bowl in 30 years.”
Aikman went on to say he believes Jones does care about winning and getting to another Super Bowl.
Unlike the Cowboys, the Eagles have made several moves over the years to improve their chances of making the Super Bowl. Over the years, Jones has let several key players go, like Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Amari Cooper. He also refuses to dip his toe much into free agency and sign players like Derrick Henry, who landed in Baltimore, not to mention the number of coaches he has had over the years since Jimmy Johnson left. All of this has contributed to the Cowboys' Super Bowl drought.
