Trevor Lawrence grills, explained: How Jaguars turned viral AI meme into reality with diamond set for QB's teeth image

Trevor Lawrence’s fifth season in the NFL has been especially noteworthy, with the Jaguars quarterback finally appearing to fulfill the potential and skill set that made him such a coveted talent when he entered the draft in 2021.

The 26-year-old has been one of the league’s best players in recent weeks, tallying 19 touchdowns against one interception over his last six appearances — all of them wins. A hulking presence under center whose strong arm and mobility earned rave reviews coming out of college, Lawrence now looks like one of the sport’s finest quarterbacks. His stock among NFL fans has surged of late, with Lawrence becoming something of a darling on social media.

That is a somewhat unprecedented sight for a quarterback who dealt with on-field struggles as recently as earlier this season. Nevertheless, a recent meme has helped make Lawrence the talk of the town at EverBank Stadium. It also appears to have inspired a new addition to his jewelry collection.

With that, here’s what you need to know about Lawrence’s grills.

Spirits were high after the Jaguars clinched their fifth divisional title in Week 18. Jacksonville throttled the Titans 41-7 in its season finale, locking up the division crown and the No. 3 seed in the postseason.

Jaguars players poured into the locker room in celebration, dancing and chanting as the final horn blared. Lawrence was at the center of it all, with teammates — including cornerback Jarrian Jones — paying homage to their star quarterback.

Jones praised Lawrence for his performance throughout the season before presenting him with a gift. He unveiled the flashy object in front of their raucous teammates. It glimmered as light danced across its surface. It was a grill, the sort of ornament that has become a staple in Florida households.

Lawrence slipped on the jewelry, joining Lamar Jackson, Justin Jefferson and other standouts who have sported gleaming fronts while suited up in their NFL gear. His teammates cheered him on as he did so.

The piece was the product of a collaborative effort involving Lawrence’s mother, his wife, Marissa, the Jaguars’ social media team and a local jeweler. Darien Rencher, Lawrence’s former college teammate and close friend, detailed the process behind the regalia on Instagram.

The story goes as follows: Lawrence's friends and families saw AI-doctored images of the Jacksonville hurler flaunting a mouth full of diamonds on social media.

The pictures obviously moved them.

They collaborated to make the joke a reality, with Rencher hitting up the jeweler, who informed him that he would need 3D scans of Lawrence's teeth to construct the grill.

Rencher turned to Lawrence’s wife for help. Because Lawrence wears a retainer, she reached out to his mother to see if she had any leads. Lawrence’s mother then contacted his hometown dentist, who sent the scans to the jeweler, putting the plan in motion — all without Lawrence’s knowledge.

“I think somehow my wife might’ve been involved in that, getting my teeth measurements or something, because it fit,” Lawrence told reporters.

According to Rencher, the plan was entirely contingent on the Jaguars winning out. If they failed to keep their unbeaten streak alive or Lawrence’s play dipped, the scheme would have been scrapped.

In the end, Jacksonville kept winning. Its victory over the Titans pushed the win streak to eight games, making it the perfect time to add some brilliance to Lawrence’s smile

"And the rest is history," Rencher said. "American history, caucasian history, NFL history.... That's just legendary bro."
