How long was the Super Bowl national anthem in 2024? How Reba McEntire hit both betting over and under

And in the end, McEntire just barely hit the over by adding an extra "the brave" to the end of the performance. Had it ended after her first brave, the under would have hit. This created a Gladys Knight situation at some sportsbooks that considered the national anthem over after the first "the brave."

How long was the Super Bowl national anthem in 2023?

The 2024 Super Bowl national anthem unofficially lasted 1 minutes and 35 seconds, from the song's first word to the end of the final note held. That lasted just longer than the one minute and 31 seconds set as the official over/under bet by most sportsbooks.

However, BetMGM noted that their official Super Bowl national anthem prop considered the under the winner. Why? Because the song was considered over after McEntire finished the first "the brave," which occurred before the 1:31 mark.

So, the over/under result may depend on the sportsbook at which bettors placed their wagers.

Reba McEntire was this year's anthem performer. The 68-year-old "Queen of Country" has sold more than 75 million records worldwide during her career and has seen an incredible 25 songs top the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

McEntire is a three-time Grammy winner and an actress. She appeared in the titular role of "Annie Get Your Gun" on Broadway in 2001 and currently serves as a judge on "The Voice." She held guest star roles on programs such as "Young Sheldon" and "Last Man Standing" in recent years.

What was the Super Bowl national anthem over/under?

A year after sportsbooks were burned by setting Mickey Guyton's anthem over/under at just 95 seconds, they decided to get serious for Chris Stapleton. They placed the over/under at 126.5 seconds and Stapleton became the first anthem singer to hit the under since Demi Lovato in 2020.

Now, sportsbooks have set the over/under lines for the anthem at a minuscule 90.5 seconds. So, McEntire's anthem will have to last just 1:31 for the over to hit.

Sporting News' Sloan Piva didn't believe that would happen this season. He noted that while the under has hit just twice in the last nine Super Bowls, McEntire has never had a penchant for showmanship. So, the performance seemed likely to come up short of the 1:31 mark.

McEntire performed the anthem in just 1:30 at a Dallas Cowboys game back in 1999. So, the over/under looked like a true 50-50 proposition despite the short-projected run-time.

Ultimately, McEntire seemed on pace to hit the under for most of the performance. But an extra "the brave" added to the end of it pushed it past the 1:31 mark and allowed the over to hit for the eighth time in the last 10 Super Bowls.
