Patrick Mahomes' game in Super Bowl 57 wasn't the most impressive statistical performance of his career. But it might have been the most gutsy.

The 2022 NFL MVP became the first player since Kurt Warner for the Rams in the 1999 season to win both that and Super Bowl MVP — and all on an ankle that has continuously been a talking point throughout the 2023 NFL playoffs.

That was no more apparent than in the waning moments of the first half vs. the Eagles, when Philadelphia linebacker T.J. Edwards appeared to re-aggravate his high-ankle sprain, causing him to limp heavily off the field:

How did Mahomes respond? By leading a 10-point halftime comeback with a score on each of the Chiefs' second-half possessions: Three touchdowns and a game-winning field goal with just seconds remaining. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said it best in the postgame interview:

Here's how he won it:

Who won Super Bowl MVP in 2023?

Mahomes won the second Super Bowl MVP of his career on Sunday with a gutsy performance that saw him lead a double-digit halftime deficit after appearing to re-aggravate an ankle injury late in the second half — one that severely hobbled him in the divisional and conference championship rounds.

"I told y'all this week, nothing was going to keep me off that football field, man," Mahomes said.

In all, he completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns in the Chiefs' 38-35 win. His first touchdown was an 18-yard touchdown reception to his favorite target, Travis Kelce:

That was Mahomes' only touchdown of the first half, though he more than made up with it the second, leading four scoring drives, including touchdown drives of 75, 75 and 5 yards. He had hands in two of those three touchdowns, completing throws of 5 and 4 yards, respectively, to Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore:

Mahomes had perhaps no more play play than his long scramble on that bum ankle for 26 yards to the Eagles' 17-yard line. That allowed the Chiefs to take a late field goal in a 38-35 win:

With that, Mahomes adds to what is already a Hall of Fame career, just five seasons into his career as a starter:
