The NFL officially has a new Sack King.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett etched his name into the history books on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, finally securing the one full sack he needed to break the hallowed single-season record. Garrett’s takedown of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter moved his season total to 23.0 sacks, officially surpassing the long-standing mark of 22.5, which was jointly held by Michael Strahan (2001) and T.J. Watt (2021). The moment delivered a thunderous climax to a record chase that had captivated the league, validating the superstar status he has held since entering as the No. 1 overall pick.

The defensive end, who holds the Browns' franchise record, has routinely been among the league leaders in quarterback pressures and sacks, threatening the 20-sack plateau multiple times without ever quite reaching the single-season pinnacle. This year, however, Garrett left no doubt, setting an ambitious preseason goal of 25 sacks and relentlessly pursuing opposing passers across the 17-game schedule to finally capture the most coveted individual defensive record.

While the game itself was a divisional meeting between two teams already eliminated from playoff contention, Garrett's presence elevated the contest to must-watch television for football fans everywhere. His performance against the Bengals cemented the 2025 season as a career year and strengthened his case for the Defensive Player of the Year award, completing one of the most remarkable individual seasons by an edge rusher in league history. The record-setting sack against his divisional rival, Joe Burrow, serves as the defining moment of Garrett's dominant campaign.

Check out all of Garrett’s highlights from Cincinnati, including his record-breaking moment, below.

How many sacks does Myles Garrett have?

Garrett enters the Week 18 game with 22.0 sacks, just one sack away from breaking the all-time single-season record.

Last week, the Steelers held Garrett without a sack in the Browns victory, keeping the pass rusher at bay in his chase for the record. It was the first time since Oct. 12 that Garrett didn't have at least a half sack in a game.

Did Myles Garrett have a sack today?

Garrett did have a sack today, and it was a historic one. In the fourth quarter of the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns defensive end sacked Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to secure his 23rd sack of the 2025 season. This single sack was the one he needed to finally break the NFL's all-time single-season sack record.

Garrett had been on the cusp of this record for several games, entering Week 18 needing just one full sack to surpass the mark of 22.5, which was jointly held by Michael Strahan (2001) and T.J. Watt (2021). Despite facing constant chip blocks and double teams throughout the season, his relentless effort in the final game paid off. This achievement is the culmination of a dominant campaign, where he consistently ranked among the league leaders.

The record-breaking takedown of Joe Burrow now officially places Myles Garrett alone atop the NFL's single-season sack list. His final tally of 23.0 sacks in 2025 sets a new standard for pass rushers in the Super Bowl era.
